4 things to know: IMO Health’s March clinical terminology release

IMO Health updates its clinical terminology several times a year, ensuring each Regulatory release is as smooth as possible for clients. Here are some recent highlights.
MARCHClinicalTermRelease

Grounded in industry-leading clinical terminology, IMO Health’s solutions are integral to the function of electronic health records (EHRs) throughout the country. And a major reason why 89% of US physicians, nurses, and PAs have relied on our solutions year after year is our commitment to continuously updating our terminology content so it is always current, accurate, and easy to integrate.

Want to know more about what you’ll find in our latest terminology release?* Here are four highlights:

1. LOINC® additions

In February 2023, the Regenstrief Institute – which produces the LOINC standardized terminology set – released updated terminologies and mappings. IMO Health’s March release includes the addition of 608 new terms, 464 of which are concepts related to laboratory documentation. The next LOINC update will occur in August 2023.

2. Changes to support Medicare and Medicaid billing updates

Quarterly updates to the Healthcare Common Procedure Coding System (HCPCS) are included in IMO’s March release. These standardized codes are used to support billing claims through Medicare and Medicaid. Effective on April 1, 2023, this update adds 46 new codes to IMO’s terminology and retires three others.

3. Current Procedural Terminology (CPT®) additions

CPT codes have also updated, with two codes deleted and 23 added. These new codes will become effective April 1, 2023, and the deleted codes will become inactive March 31, 2023. The codes encompass updates to documentation for oncology, infectious disease, genomics, nephrology, and gastroenterology, among other areas.

4. ICD-10-PCS

Finally, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) will implement 34 new ICD-10-PCS codes effective April 1, 2023. No codes were deleted or revised. The added codes capture information related to blood transfusions, advances in laser therapy, and the use of intraluminal devices in cardiothoracic care.
