The shift to clinical intelligence as infrastructure

IMO Health is entering a new phase of its evolution – one in which clinical intelligence is no longer delivered primarily through applications or bespoke integrations, but through standardized, agent accessible capabilities.

The deployment of Model Context Protocol (MCP) servers is the technical inflection point enabling this shift. By adopting MCP as its primary interface to clinical artificial intelligence (AI) systems, IMO Health is repositioning its terminology assets, including our knowledge graph and applications, into foundational infrastructure for healthcare AI.

Why MCP is a turning point for healthcare AI

Historically, IMO Health’s value has been embedded inside downstream systems: electronic health record (EHR) workflows, analytics tools, and revenue cycle tools. MCP changes this dynamic.

By exposing IMO Health’s core assets – our clinical knowledge graph, normalization, graph traversal, and clinical reasoning – as first-class MCP tools, IMO Health enables any compliant AI agent to directly invoke trusted clinical intelligence, utilizing a tool-as-a-service model.

More importantly, MCP allows IMO Health to become the default clinical toolbelt for agentic healthcare systems. As health systems, EHR vendors, and AI platform teams build their own agents using models from OpenAI, Anthropic, and others, our MCP server becomes the consistent grounding layer that ensures clinical accuracy, reproducibility, and auditability.

In this vertical AI infrastructure model, IMO Health is positioning itself as infrastructure, analogous to identity, payments, or mapping services in other industries.

Enabling a consistent clinical foundation for AI agents

IMO Health is also uniquely positioned to operate as an agent enablement platform for healthcare. By providing an MCP registry with curated tools, we enable customers to assemble specialized agents like coding assistants, prior authorization agents, and data quality agents.

MCP’s model-agnostic design allows IMO Health to package its clinical tools directly inside partner products, from ambient documentation systems to revenue cycle automation platforms.

Building the trusted clinical layer for next-generation healthcare AI

Taken together, MCP is not merely a new integration standard for IMO Health; it is the foundation of a strategic repositioning.

By treating its terminology and software as tools that serve as the authoritative “grounding layer” for customer-built agents, and treating clinical intelligence as infrastructure, IMO Health is defining what it means to be the trusted clinical layer on which the next generation of healthcare AI is built.
